PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Are you ready to make a lasting impact on critical infrastructure? Join our dynamic Engineering team in Hastings, MN, and play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing our network of bridges, trestles, buildings, concrete foundations, and retaining walls. You’ll help create and maintain a safe environment for all who use and rely on our walkways and structures. In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with sheet metal workers and scale inspectors to support the maintenance of motion scales. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Perform general maintenance of bridges, including greasing, replacing bolts, inspecting after impacts, and maintaining navigational lights
Conduct regular machine maintenance and use various hand and power tools
Engage in manual outdoor labor under all weather conditions, working standard Monday to Friday hours, but available for 24/7 call outs, including weekends and holidays, with a one-hour response time
Inspect, measure, cut, replace and secure timber and bridge ties; replace and assist with rail replacement and surfaces approach tracks as needed
Construct, assemble, and repair wooden and concrete bridge structures using blueprints, plans, and sketches; includes cutting, shaping, fastening materials and erecting frameworks and scaffolding
Perform masonry, concrete work, and roofing; forms, pours, and finishes concrete, lays blocks, and constructs forms for various structures
Assist in setting up hoisting equipment, setting heavy structures, driving piles, and cutting or welding steel for bridge alterations
Maintain vigilance for train defects and track debris to ensure safety
Operate a variety of heavy equipment and tools, such as cranes, drills, hammers, compactor and sawsÂ
Receives instructions and coordinates with supervisors and coworkers through various communication methods and follows all safety and operating regulations

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or general equivalency
Must be at least 18 years of age
Valid driver’s license: Commercial driver’s license
Must be able to travel frequently and work system-wide
Available for a 40-hour work week, with overtime, on-call, alternate shifts, nights, weekends and holidays as needed
Capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions
Physically able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, perform tasks involving grasping, turning and pulling
Work on uneven surfaces, climb ladders, operate on/off equipment and work on scaffolding suspended from bridges
Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment required for the job in a safe manner

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
