DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The Deputy Chief of Police is accountable for local day to day operations by providing direct coaching, teaching, facilitation, and guidance to special agents, patrolmen and contract security and non-security personnel.
This position requires 24-7 on call status and the requirement to change shifts often as necessary around the requirements of the territory.
In addition, the Deputy Chief of Police also performs administrative functions regarding budget, equipment and assignment of personnel including scheduling, evaluation and training.
The Deputy Chief of Police is responsible for attending all Homeland Security and local law enforcement meetings as a representative of BNSF Police.
During the absence of the Assistant Chief of Police, the Deputy Chief of Police could be placed in a position leading Police operations and investigations. These investigations may be extremely intricate, complex and confidential.
This position will also be required to work under hazardous conditions i.e., chemical spills, riot control, armed trespassers, etc.
The protection of Company property and assets through well developed, proactive crime prevention efforts to ensure safe and on time train performance will be one of the primary aims of the position.
Position is responsible for all Police activities in the designated area.
The position plans, executes and develops team resources including personnel and equipment, supervises sensitive corporate and criminal investigations, provides accurate, detailed reports and provide court testimony when required.Â
Counsels and advises company officials and public law enforcement agencies on sensitive criminal investigations. Maintain BNSF readiness to elevated threat by supervising police activity and countermeasures during a heightened security alert in area of responsibility. Maintains and has administrative responsibility for all Alarm, CCTV and Card Access across the BNSF system.Â
Maintains and provides data for audit purposes (Regulatory, Internal and External).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree strongly preferred
Must have satisfactorily completed basic police training at a recognized state certified academy
Eighteen months of successful experience as a full time peace officer with a city, county, state federal or railroad law enforcement agency is preferred
Must meet peace officer commissioning standards in state in which this job is posted and be commissioned as such; OR be able to meet the peace officer commissioning standards in that state within one year of starting the position and maintain it thereafter.
Must meet BNSF Resource Protection Solutions Team standards as a Special Agent
Must have a valid driver's license
Must be willing and able to travel as required
Must be willing and able to use the company's computer system for creating reports and databases
Must be physically and psychologically fit, able to successfully pass any required company evaluations and pass an extensive background investigation
