PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
As the Manager Vehicle Fleet, you will provide strategic operational oversight for the Vehicle Fleet Team (VFT), ensuring a safe, efficient, and cost‑effective maintenance program across Canada, the U.S., and Mexico. You will lead the resources responsible for vehicle care, maintenance, replacement, and functionality, while supervising repair activities, audits, investigations, and vendor performance. You will also ensure full compliance with Federal, Provincial, and State regulations for vehicles and ancillary equipment, and develop specifications for light, medium, heavy‑duty, and specialized vehicles. This role is critical in maintaining operational reliability, regulatory compliance, and the overall safety of CPKC’s fleet operations.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Lead a safe, efficient, and cost‑effective vehicle maintenance program across the Canada, U.S., and Mexico fleets
Oversee all maintenance, repair, inspections, and replacement activities, ensuring compliance with Federal, Provincial, and State regulations for vehicles and ancillary equipment (e.g., cranes, HiRails)
Manage vendor and shop performance, including auditing, investigating issues, validating repairs, and participating in quarterly business reviews
Develop and maintain specifications and designs for light‑, medium‑, heavy‑duty, and specialized vehicles
Enforce CPKC safety practices and Vehicle Fleet policies consistently across the organization, addressing and investigating field issues as required
Monitor and control maintenance and repair spending aligned to Capital and Opex budgets, including invoice processing, purchase orders, and goods receipting
Ensure preventive maintenance is scheduled and completed, review inspection reports, and maintain accurate work orders, maintenance records, ARI entries, and MATS updates
Support annual and multi‑year fleet replacement planning, including asset specifications, in‑service/out‑of‑service coordination, and disposal of retired assets
Maintain strong cross‑functional relationships with managers and operators, continuously identifying and implementing process improvement

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent
Red Seal Mechanic or Journeymen certificate as a heavy-duty mechanic is desirable
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a railway work equipment maintenance environment is an added advantage
Experience leveraging programs like SAP (or equivalent) or using Excel for analysis, Word, and other MS Office applications
Rules qualified or significant field experience in Rail operations (Mechanical, Engineering, S&C, etc. is desirable
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver key performance metrics in both emergency and non‑emergency situations

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
