This is a position at Grade 10. Job Summary The Officer, Design and Construction (D C) is responsible for coordinating and supporting internal and external capital expenditure projects, including capacity, business development, Metrolinx, and adjacent development . Main Responsibilities · Collaborate with internal and external partners, including municipalities, utilities, and government agencies to complete construction projects, which entails turning a level crossing into a grade separation · Cooperate with and support the Manager D C as well as Manager Public Works, Chief Engineer – Track and Production along with Business Development staff · Ensure that projects are completed within established time and budget · Subscribe to the general design principles, review engineering drawings and documents, and ensure that specifications are accurate · Respond to emergencies, which include operational issues, derailments, and washouts · Support D C in overseeing rebuilding and maintain the integrity of the Company’s civil structures Working Conditions The role is performed in a combination of office and outdoor environment in various types of weather conditions and may be in unfamiliar locations with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidences such as washouts and derailments and work varying shifts, weekends, and statutory holidays to cover operations. The incumbent must be able to work adjacent to loud power equipment, near construction sites with exposure to dust and railroad materials such as ballast and treated cross ties. The role requires occasional travel (up to 20%) within the assigned territory. Requirements Experience Track Survey, Track and Bridge Design · Between 1 to 3 years of experience in track survey and construction, track and bridge design, as well as construction specification writing and estimating* o Railway experience* *Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset Education/Certification/Designation · Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering · Engineering in Training (EIT) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) · Valid Driver’s License Competencies · Applies critical thinking · Sets direction and inspires others · Develops self and others · Innovates · Demonstrates agility and drives change · Communicates with impact · Solves problems to create value · Identifies potential safety and security risks · Considers ESG principles in all operations · Fluently bilingual both written and verbal (English, French)* *Any skills/attributes for these above would be considered as an asset Technical Skills/Knowledge · Knowledge of Ontario’s construction law · Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)
