Job Summary
Responsible for performing track surveys and right-of-way mapping work on all Amtrak-owned or maintained properties. The senior field person in responsible charge of all surveying activities while in the field. They coordinate field work with their colleagues in Electric Traction, Signals and Communications, Structures, Division Engineers, Engineering Production and Real Estate. They maintain the equipment. They write and organize all field notes. They develop âcut sheetsâ for construction layout.  Their work is primarily in the field and they will be based out of Wilmington, Delaware.
Essential Functions
Works autonomously and safely, supervising Amtrak field survey crew or consultant-provided survey personnel in surveying field work.
Supervises and performs highly technical survey tasks using mobile surveying solutions, robotic survey equipment, GNSS receiving equipment, data collection devices, digital and optical levels; takes field notes and creates sketches
Creates survey plans for transmittal to design team members and the public
Responsible for performing track and right-of-way surveys and verifying that the lines and grades of the proposed improvements are within the clearance envelopes and right-of-way boundaries. The surveys include existing track alignment data, topographic surveys in support of track designs; layout in support of track construction and renewal; record surveys of completed work; boundary line surveys along the railroad right of way.
Lays out design track geometry in the field for use by track construction and maintenance forces.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelorâs Degree required or equivalent combination of training, education and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
6 years of prior relevant experience required
Preferred Qualifications
9 years of relevant experience preferred.
Participation in a professional survey society.
Bachelorâs Degree in Geomatics, Land Surveying
Relevant, progressive work experience in land surveying.
Professional Land Survey license or registration
Qualified in AMTRAK RWP and AMT II and MW1000
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Fundamental knowledge of general civil engineering principles.
Ability to read, understand and produce engineering drawings and documents.
Ability to absorb information, think critically and make sound engineering decisions.
Willingness to learn CAD software and become a highly skilled technical draftsman.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point).
Attention to detail and completeness.
Valid driverâs license
Environmental Conditions/Physical Demands
The salary/hourly range is $94,300.00 â $122,256.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employeeâs assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employeeâs base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
