**Job Title:** Train Engineer
**FLSA Status:** Non\-exempt
**Classification:** Part\-time Regular**Hours:** 8 hours/week (may vary pending business operations)**Pay Rate:** $16\.83/hour*This is a regular part\-time position working up to an average of 24 hours per week annually in an ongoing capacity, pending individual performance. Work schedules may vary week to week, month to month, or seasonally based on operational needs.***Summary:**We are seeking locomotive engineers to operate our Omaha Zoo Railroad. This includes our historic steam locomotive and our diesel locomotive. This position will entail fireman duties, engineer duties, oiling of equipment, greasing of equipment, fueling, watering, and very minor mechanical adjustments.
**Duties and Responsibilities** (include but not limited to):
* Care and feeding of steam locomotives.
* Care of diesel locomotives.
* Train air brake handling.
* Light off a steam locomotive.
* Train handling.
* Fill and operate grease guns and oil cans.
**Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:*** Basic use of hand tools.
* Use of hand signaling practices.
* Customer service skills.
* Ability to work with a diverse population and speaking to the public.
* Ability to multitask.
* Railroad experience, railroad motive power and steam locomotive experience is a plus.
**Working Conditions and Physical Effort:*** Extended/odd hours including weekends, holidays, and periodic weeknight programs.
* Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
* Must be able to traverse zoo grounds on foot.
* Will lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 35 lbs. unassisted and over 35 lbs. occasionally using proper equipment and safe and proper lifting methods.
* In the performance of duties individual is regularly required to stand, walk, use of hands to grab, handle, signal, or feel, talk and hear.
Candidates might be required to pass a pre\-employment background check, drug test, and possess a valid driver’s license with a good history.
