TheSouthwestern Railroad (reporting mark SW)is aClass III short-line freight railroadbased inDeming, New Mexico, that has operated since1990over formerAtchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway (Santa Fe)trackage in southwestern New Mexico. It serves communities such asDeming, Whitewater, Tyrone, and Chino, hauling key commodities includingcopper and related materials, limestone, and chemicals, largely tied to local mining and industrial customers. The railroad interchanges withBNSF Railway and Union Pacificand provides freight service, railcar storage, and support to regional shippers. Originally consisting of multiple disconnected divisions, the Southwestern Railroad’s primary remaining operation is itsWhitewater Divisionin New Mexico. InNovember 2020, the line was acquired byJaguar Transport Holdings, which continues to operate and develop the railroad within its network of short lines.
